Dr. Janine W.C.-Avent is no stranger to the health care industry, having spent 30 years as an accomplished Registered Nurse, Educator, Mentor, and Motivator, this taught me the importance of helping people. I started out as an LPN. I received my Nursing degree from the University of South Carolina, my Master’s degree in Business and my Master’s degree in Health Care from the University of Colorado and my Doctoral degree from the University of Phoenix. I’ve worked in a variety of areas to include women's services, Medical Surgical Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Cardiac Nursing, Home Health, Hospice, I was the Residency Coordinator for Emory in Atlanta Ga, and I participated in Clinical Research where I was a fellow for Ustashi Biomedical Research Institute (UBRICA ONE), assisting in the development of The Thompson & Grace Medical City Project in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. UBRICA ONE is an organization that is about "doing things in health care organizations around the world."
Presently, I am CEO of Medical Legal Nurse Consultant in SC, Where I am a medical expert in legal cases that help attorneys understand medical terminology and build their legal cases and I am also the CEO of JWCConsultingServices , where I help nurses who are in school identify and change beliefs and behaviors that interfere with their motivation and productivity. I began helping nurses write papers until that span into me helping nurses with tools and resources to complete his or her DNP or PHD as a nurse consultant, and dissertation coach.
I work in Nephrology as the Administrator of a Dialysis center. I decided to come back to SC from Atlanta GA .
Why did I choose nursing? I honestly believe nursing chose me. I didn’t come from a family of nurses or medical people. I knew I liked caring for sick people so I challenged myself to learn all I could about the nursing field, the good and the bad. The business aspects as well. As a black nurse in management/ administration my role is to increase diversity in the field of health and reduce health disparities, ultimately improving the overall health care for all patients. I do this in my clinic by not just caring for the most vulnerable people in my area that look like me but I also recruit and retain staff and educate them on the importance of decreasing the systematic biases and racial inequities that persist in health care.
